Self-Isolation

Year 11

As you are aware from my letter yesterday, we have had our first positive case of COVID-19 this term.  We were informed at 08:00 yesterday and immediately contacted the Essex Contact Tracing Team (ECTT).  At around 09:30, ECTT advised us that all Year 11 should self-isolate for 14 days as the students were potentially 'close contacts'. They confirmed that staff did not need to self-isolate as our classroom setups allow for an adequate social distance between the students and the teacher.

I spoke with Year 11 and explained the situation and all Year 11 students left the site around 10:30 to begin their self-isolation period.  I fully appreciate that Year 11 students were disappointed with this outcome and they are understandably anxious to avoid any further disruption to their learning.  As ever, I was impressed by the level of maturity displayed by the Year 11 students during this process; their impeccable conduct enabled a swift transition off-site and into self-isolation.

Year 8

We have received confirmation today that a Year 8 student has tested positive for COVID-19.  As the student has not been in school since before half term there is no risk to others as potential close contacts.

Self-Isolation Work (Year 7 - Year 10)

A reminder that work for students who are self-isolating is available on our website.   This work closely mirrors the work students are completing in class and will enable students to continue with their learning.

Self-Isolation Work (Year 11)

Year 11 will be receiving further details on their self-isolation work later today.   Students and their parents will be emailed the full details.

Mixing Households

It has been brought to my attention that some students and their families have been mixing households, including meeting indoors. This is not permitted under the current Lockdown restrictions which are in place until 02 December 2020.   The restrictions state:

  • You should stay at home except for education, work (if it can’t be done from home), medical reasons, shopping for essentials, or to care for others
  • Households must not mix with others indoors, or in private gardens
  • You can meet one person from outside your household in an outdoors public space.  Children under 5 do not count in this limit.

Support bubbles for people who live alone and single parent households can continue.

These restrictions are in place to reduce the growth rate of the virus.  I would implore you to adhere to these measures in order to prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed and ensure that schools, colleges and universities can stay open.

Homework

We have been very pleased with the high levels of engagement and quality of homework from students so far this academic year.  This week letters of praise have been sent home to the 103 students who have completed 100% of their homework to date.  Your support with ensuring your child completes their homework is greatly appreciated as it assists us with our catch up plans; working together in this way will accelerate your child’s progress.

Student Achievement

Congratulations to Aliyah in Year 9 who was shortlisted for a Girls’ Leadership National Award through the Youth Sports Trust.  Aliyah was recognised in the top 5 of students in this category – a fantastic achievement.

Contacting Us

Over the lockdown period, we provided an online Contact Form for parents and carers to use.  Due to your positive feedback, we have now replicated this form so that you can continue to contact us in this way.  The new Contact Form is on our website under the 'Contact Us' menu item, or it can be accessed by clicking here.

I hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe.
