Year 11

I would like to congratulate and pay tribute to our Year 11 students who have been self-isolating this week.  Staff have been very impressed with their levels of engagement with the online work and live lessons.  We will be continuing this next week.

Self Isolation Work

A reminder that work for students who are self-isolating is available on our website.   This work closely mirrors the work students are completing in class and will enable students to continue with their learning.

Mixing Households

It has been brought to my attention that there are still some students and their families have been mixing households, including meeting indoors. This is not permitted under the current Lockdown restrictions which are in place until 02 December 2020.   The restrictions state:

  • You should stay at home except for education, work (if it can’t be done from home), medical reasons, shopping for essentials, or to care for others
  • Households must not mix with others indoors, or in private gardens
  • You can meet one person from outside your household in an outdoors public space.  Children under 5 do not count in this limit.

Support bubbles for people who live alone and single parent households can continue.

These restrictions are in place to reduce the growth rate of the virus.  I would implore you to adhere to these measures in order to prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed and ensure that schools, colleges and universities can stay open.

Face Coverings

Can I please remind you that all students, staff and visitors at The Deanes will be required to wear a face covering when moving around any part of the building. Everyone must wear a face covering when they enter any building and while they are moving around the corridors.  Exemptions to this rule apply.

Please ensure your child arrives to school each day with an appropriate face covering.

Face coverings must not be worn in lessons, instead students must store their face covering in a sealed plastic bag.

iMatter Weekend

Since 2016, The Deanes has used two of our five statutory non – pupil days to create our iMatter weekend.  It allows our students and our staff some time to rest during this extremely busy time of year.  This year, the school will be completely closed on Friday 27 November 2020 and Monday 30 November 2020. (It should be acknowledged that all staff will make up the time during Twilight training sessions throughout the year and that there is no loss to the statutory teaching time.)

My decision to introduce the ‘iMatter Weekend’ was strategic as emotional and physical wellbeing is critical in developing a healthy, successful school community. Quality teaching is the result of having an underlying structure that supports both the learner and the teacher.  If the structure does not allow space to breathe for those within it, the quality of provision can suffer.  Wellbeing for students and staff is not a luxury for the end of term and it should not be seen as a bolt on or added extra.  At The Deanes, we believe that it is a fundamental pre-requisite for effective, high quality and engaging teaching and learning. Both students and staff need to be supported, fit and well to be inspired and inspiring.

Contacting Us

Over the lockdown period, we provided an online Contact Form for parents and carers to use.  Due to your positive feedback, we have now replicated this form so that you can continue to contact us in this way.  The new Contact Form is on our website under the 'Contact Us' menu item, or it can be accessed by clicking here.

I hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe.
