Self-Isolation Work

We understand that your child may be concerned about missing out on learning in the event that they need to self-isolate. We also appreciate that in order to support your child’s learning during a period of self-isolation, resources need to be readily available.

With this in mind, our staff have worked extremely hard to provide online learning activities which closely mirror the work in class. Whist this has been possible for the vast majority of subjects and weeks this term, in some cases work has not been set where it is not practical or desirable to try to replicate what is happening in lessons with online work.

Most of the links provided will take you to an Oak National Academy lesson. Students should complete the lesson, as they would do in class, and mark the work as they complete it. This will mean that work completed during self-isolation does not need to be sent into school. Where an alternative learning resource is more suitable, teaching staff have provided links to other websites or learning resources.

Respect for School Property

Now that the weather has turned more wintery, students will be making more use of their zone's allocated indoor area.  I want to be absolutely clear regarding my expectations of students when using these spaces. I will not tolerate any wilful damage of our environment and I will deal with any student disrespecting school property severely.  If appropriate, we will expect parents / carers to pay for the damage.

Laptop Loans for Students

During this very challenging period, we are doing everything we can to ensure our students have the best possible educational opportunities.  To support students with their learning, Programme Leaders have adapted curriculum plans to prioritise key concepts and skills in each subject.  A further part of our strategy to help students achieve, is to set regular homework.  All homework will be detailed on Epraise and staff will record whether or not a student hands in the work.  A proportion of this homework relies on the student having access to a computer device at home.

To this end, we have invested in a number of laptops which we can lend to students who do not have access to IT equipment at home.  I recently asked parents to complete a survey, and we followed this up in school with the students, to establish who needs to borrow a laptop.

We have identified a number of Year 10 and Year 11 students who need to borrow a laptop and we have written to their parents.  If you receive a letter, please ensure you complete the Laptop Loan Agreement and return it as soon as possible.

We will be expanding on this offer to other year groups in due course.

Face Coverings on School Transport

Children aged 11 and over are legally required to wear a face covering on public transport in England, unless exempt for health, age or disability reasons.

In accordance with advice from Public Health England, we require all students using our dedicated school transport to wear a face covering, unless they are exempt. We will reserve the right to refuse travel for students not wearing a mask.

A face covering is a covering of any type that covers your nose and mouth.  Reusable or single use face covering are available for parents / carer to buy in a number of stores.

Please remind your child that while this measure may help reduce the spread of coronavirus, it is not a substitute for other protective measures such as good hand hygiene.  Face covering must be removed before entering school.

Letter on Test and Trace

I have attached a letter from the Chief Nurse and Interim Chief Medical Officer of NHS Test and Trace which contains guidance to parents and carers of when you should book a coronavirus test for your child.

Contacting Us

Over the lockdown period, we provided an online Contact Form for parents and carers to use.  Due to your positive feedback, we have now replicated this form so that you can continue to contact us in this way.  The new Contact Form is on our website under the 'Contact Us' menu item, or it can be accessed by clicking here.

I hope you have a lovely weekend.
