Year 10 Curriculum plans

Term What are we learning? What Knowledge, Understanding and Skills will we gain? What will excellence look like? How will these be assessed?

Autumn

Camera basics, shutter speed mode and panning. Students will learn the different styles of cameras and their features. They will learn how to take photos in focus and what shutter priority is used for. Students will gain an understanding of the panning technique and take successful panning shots. Students that have taken sharp focused photographs that demonstrate a clear understanding of what a long exposure shot is and how to achieve it. A panning shot that captures the moving model in focus whilst the rest of the image is blurry. Shutter speed and panning shots that have been presented in their sketchbooks alongside a well described analysis on how the student achieved the work will be assessed.

Autumn

Aperture priority mode, pin-hole photography and drawing with light. Students will learn what aperture priority mode is on a camera and they will learn how to set a DSLR camera up in this mode. Students will learn what depth of field is and how this can be achieved in aperture priority mode. Students will learn what pin-hole photography is and they will make their own pin-hole camera. Students who produce sharp images that demonstrate a clear understanding of depth of field, this will also be accompanied with a clearly written and well-resented analysis of how this has been achieved. Depth of field shots and drawing with lights shots that have been presented in their sketchbooks alongside a well described analysis on how the students achieved the work will be assessed.

Spring

Students will learn about the work of the portrait photographer Rankin. Students will gain knowledge of the work of Rankin. Students will learn how to use lighting and reflectors to help obtain certain looks in photographs. Photographs that are sharp in focus, have exceptional use of lighting and reflector use and have a clear influence from the work of Rankin. Students final outcome photographs will be assessed against Assessment Objective 4 criteria.

Spring

Students will learn about Composite Photography. Students will learn how to construct a successful composite image. Students will gain knowledge of various artists who produce Composite Images. Students will gain a greater knowledge of editing skills on Photo Serif. Excellence will be images that are eye catching, well thought through and constructed with precision, that clearly show an understanding of Composite Photography. Students final outcome photographs will be assessed against Assessment Objective 4 criteria.

Summer

Pupils will learn what Double exposure photography is and how to create it. Pupils will build on previous contextual studies by adding the work of photographers who produce double exposure photography. Excellence will be evident in a well-planned double exposure image that has been both taken well and put together in Photo Serif with confidence. Pupils work will be assessed against the four learning objectives.

Summer

Pupils will learn what Levitation photography is and how to create it. Pupils will build on previous contextual studies by adding the work of photographers who produce Levitation photography. Excellence will be evident in a well-planned Levitation image that has been both taken well and put together in Photo Serif with confidence. Pupils work will be assessed against the four learning objectives.

Year 11 Curriculum plans

Term What are we learning? What Knowledge, Understanding and Skills will we gain? What will excellence look like? How will these be assessed?

Autumn

How to create Levitation Photography and creating images with oversized heads. Students will learn how to plan and create levitation images. Students will understand the importance of adding shadows to their photos. Students will learn how to resize areas of an image. Focused photographs that clearly show an aspect of levitation within them. These images will look realistic in appearance, yet surreal because of the levitation qualities. Levitation final images will be assessed on how well they have been constructed, with regards to the effectiveness of the levitation of the figure/object and the accuracy of the editing skills.

Autumn

Zoom Burst Photography and Double Exposure Photography. Students will learn the skill of using the zoom on a lens to create zoom burst photographs. Students will gain knowledge of Double Exposure photography and how to construct a successful Double Exposure image. Zoom Burst images that have a small area of focus and an effective area within the photo of movement. Double exposure images that have been constructed and have a strong contrast. Zoom Burst final images will be assessed on how well they have been constructed, with regards to a clear small area of focus and the surrounding area showing a sense of movement. Double exposure final images will be assessed on how well the images have been placed together, the use of eraser to take away areas and the use of contrast within the black and white finish.

Spring

Students are learning how to add the face of a painted portrait to a photograph. Students will gain an understanding of the painting Girl With a Pearl Earring by Vermeer. Students will learn how to use Photo Serif skills to combine part of a painting to a photograph. Students will learn how to colour balance two different images. Excellence will be work that incorporates the face of the Girl With a Pearl Earring in an original composition that brings together the past and the present. The face will be adjusted to suit the lighting and the face will look natural in the image. Students final outcome photographs will be assessed against Assessment Objective 4 criteria.

Spring

Students will revisit work from their portfolio to improve final pieces. Students will continue to improve their photography skills. Students will be looking at all four objectives to ensure that they are all covered in depth and that they are linking the work of others strongly to their own work. Excellence will be visible with work that flows very easily, from contextual content to their own initial ideas, through their photoshoots into their final outcome. The students will show that they have used a range of materials and processes within their development. Students portfolio work will be assessed against all 4 Assessment Objectives.
