Our Intent
We teach a wide range of different subjects to our students. We provide an accessible and enjoyable educational experience that ensures academic success, develops life-long skills, and offers rich experience. Students study subjects to GCSE and BTEC examination but also complete a wide range of personal challenges, including leadership ones, to ensure that they are as flexible, well-rounded and employable in the coming years.
Expert curricula planning across all subjects as well as wider curricula aspects such as Relationship, Sex and Health Education, Fundamental British Values and Challenger building, ensures we clearly define what students learn across each year and throughout their time at The Deanes.
Our ambitious curriculum matches the demands of the National Curriculum at each stage so that our students can meet and exceed age related national expectations. Across our curriculum we clearly map the knoweldge and skills required in each subject.
Our teachers effectively adapt schemes of work to meet the needs of students in their classes. We value the importance of the secondary core and EBacc subjects and ensure our students’ entitlement to these. Our curriculum model is bespoke to The Deanes and changes to meet the needs and interests of our students. We work hard to ensure that our drive for improvement and the curriculum we offer is rooted in our community and our aim to be an inclusive academy in the heart of our community where all children are cared for and where standards are raised and lives transformed.

Curriculum Planning
We foster an appreciation of the importance of all individual subjects highlighting links and connections to other subjects studied. Each subject provides a narrative or journey of study detailing the what, why and how of its content and assessment. Subject delivery is collaboratively planned by our expert Programme Leaders and department teams. Content is mapped to the National Curriculum and for older students mapped to examination specifications. Our schemes of work are structured to build subject knowledge and skills, revisiting and recapping information to enhance recall and help all students to learn well. In lessons teachers share with students what they are learning, how it will be learned and why it is important. We believe knowledge is powerful when remembered as it enhances our students’ understanding and application of subject specific and transferable skills.
